Thank you for your interest in AAERO at MQMH.

Saturday, August 9th we met online for the AAERO Annual Symposium.  Fayetteville State University students presented their summer projects. Ariyeon Best shared her work on behalf of Rockfish Memorial Park.  Sade Moore presented her work on behalf of AAERO.  These presentations can be viewed using this link.

On February 15, 2025 we discussed Lovely One, by Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.   We talked about what author’s memoir tells us about parenting, schooling, and interracial relationships,.  We also discussed our own experiences and observations on these topics.  Future gatherings on Zoom may focus attention on other authors of interest, and topics relevant to our mission.

At 2:30 p.m. on December 21st we met online and discussed the 1941 publication by Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown–The Correct Thing to Do, to Say, to Wear.  We considered Dr. Brown’s advice in light of the values that we hold in this time and place.  Although these topics may seem less important than those things that we cannot control, they may help us make meaning of the ways that we spend our time—the ways that we honor this moment and the choices that we have now.  (The Blog post may make this connection clearer.)  If you would like to engage in conversation about this topic, email pquickhall@AAERO-MQMH.org.

November 16th at 2:30 p.m. we met on Zoom to discuss Ta-Nehisi Coates’ The Message, and the implications of our ethics, morality and deeply held values.  Interviews of Ta-Nehisi Coates with Marc Lamont Hill and Trevor Noah may be found online. The Message, may be purchased from Liberation Station Bookstore.  (The story of this Black-owned bookstore in North Carolina is relevant to our conversation.)

The 25th Anniversary of AAERO was August 11, 2024.  We celebrated online, sharing who we are and what we envision in the near future!

The 2024 AAERO Symposium was held Saturday 27 July. Nicholle Young St. Leone presented clips of several interviews from our “Conversations with Treasures of Our Heritage.” More information about these videos will be posted in the coming months. Three Memorial Awards were announced with introductions to the Award recipients. Information about these Awards is forthcoming. In September opportunities to participate in discussions and collaborative writing will be announced. Visit the Founder’s Blog to learn more in the meantime.

The third Saturday of each month (ending in May 2024) we met on Zoom for conversations relevant to our mission and interests. In March and February we have had lively discussions about “etiquette” and how we think and feel about old standards of culturally appropriate behavior. See the March Founder’s Blog for an invitation to participate in our collaborative project.
